Fast Times at Huntington High

We had a fun family Saturday!  We did some shopping in the morning, then in the afternoon went to a new park.  I loved the tunnel slide...

And Tommy climbed this spiral ladder pretty much on his own...

Then slid down the spiral slide completely on his own.

Daddy's daredevil!

Then we went out to dinner at a new restaurant called "Mama's".   I stuffed as much lemonade as possible into my mouth...

And for dessert we all stuffed Thrifty's ice cream into our mouths.

I took it a little further.

Ahhhhh.....

See?  Completely cleaned out.
When we got home and started to get Tommy ready for bed, he started  running around in just his diaper and Hawaiian shirt.  Dad started calling him "Spicoli", and then stuck this bagel in the front of his diaper.

Hmmmm.... I do see the resemblance.  I wanted to try it too.  Here's my look:

And here's me doing a dance and Tommy playing air guitar.  Totally gnarly!  Aloha, Mr. Hand!

Feeling Creative

I know it's early, but we already started doing some decorating for Halloween.  Here are some pumpkins I'm making with stickers to put on the front window...

Tommy liked playing with stickers, but opted for dinosaurs instead of pumpkins.

I oversaw/criticized his work.

Next we did a little watercolor painting.  Tommy kept dipping his paintbrush in the water, then putting it in his mouth.  He may still need a little painting practice, or at least a snack first.

Speaking of snacks, Mom made these little fruit faces for breakfast yesterday.

I thought it was fun, though I did have issues with disassembling it in order to eat it.  Everything in it's place!!!  Where on earth would I get that mentality?

Budding Poet

We've been reading a lot of Shel Silverstein poems lately, so I made up my own poem before I took my nap today.  It's called "The Straight-Walking Man".

There was a man
Who would only ever walk in a straight line.
He never went left,
He never went right,
He never went up,
He never went down.
He just kept walking straight
And ended up in Chicago.

Tommy's Toddler Class

I'm not the only one who gets to go to fun classes.  Tommy started going to a toddler class through the community center about a month ago.  They have tons of fun things to play and tinker with (the kid lives to tinker), like puzzles...

Ride on toys...
And even roller skates!  He's a natural!

But all the kids' favorite is bubble time!  Here is Tommy basking in the bubbles...

Actively pursuing them...

And just being cute in them.  Go, Tommy!

Ballet Class

Here are a few pictures from my most recent dance class at the Little Gym.  You'll notice I have made the fashion decision to not wear tights under my leotard.  OK, it's not really about fashion, it's about my quest to get the reward hand stamps in as many places on my body as possible.

Here I am fiddling with my tutu (that's me, second from the right)...

And being a good listener.

Here I am dancing with my partner...

And here's my other partner trying to dip me.  I know, it looks like more of a wrestling hold, but we do what we can.

This girl was my favorite partner!

I dipped her...

And she twirled me around!

Tommy lost interest in my cool moves quickly, and sidled up to this girl and her iPhone.

Here I am practicing my arabesque while holding my friend Audrey's hand (that's her on the left).

And it's always important to stretch afterwards.  I don't want to break a leg, right?

We've Been Busy

It's been a busy week!  While Mom was up in San Francisco playing with her Semester at Sea friends...

Dad and I did some gardening...

I started napping and sleeping in my tent like a real camper...

And I got to hold the leash while we walked Chewy.  I'm such a big girl!  By the way, "Big Girl" is what Tommy now calls me, instead of "Sista".  I'm glad he respects his elders and my authority.

Now that Mom's back, she built us a new fort from a few cardboard boxes, and we got to decorate it.

And, most importantly, climb through it.

After that, we did come drawing with sidewalk chalk outside.  Mom's not quite sure how Tommy got this perfect "X" on the side of his face, but she's pretty sure I had something to do with it.

Who, me?

After our chalk adventure, Tommy had some dinner, and I read him a story.  That's right, I READ IT!  I am officially a reader now, with only 5 lessons to go in my phonics book.  We went to the library today and got this reading primer, and here I am reading it through for the first time.
I rock!  Mom and Dad are so proud of me.

Scooting

Although Tommy seems more comfortable sitting on this little mini tricycle...

I've been trying to teach him to scoot.  Mostly he just likes running around with his helmet on (which he should probably do most of the time anyway)...

But every once in awhile he gives it a good try.
He has a ways to go before he's as good as me.

Until then, he's just going to enjoy how sweaty he gets from having his helmet on.  Ewww.....
